Pre-engineered metal buildings are a good economical option to satisfy a wide variety of needs. In order to construct such a building, foundation drawings and calculations are required and typically not provided by the building designer/manufacturer. Jones & DeMille Engineering’s structural engineers and designers bring years of experience and knowledge in designing foundations for pre-engineered and pre-fabricated metal buildings for all types of uses.

Why Jones & DeMille Engineering?

metal-building-foundations.com is owned and operated by Jones & DeMille Engineering.

Metal buildings need to stand the test of time and are typically less expensive than a traditional brick-and-mortar structure. Jones & DeMille Engineering (JDE) offers extensive experience in all phases of structural engineering including funding procurement, architectural design, project management, planning, concept planning design, construction management, and special inspections. Frequently Asked Questions

Knowing what you want is the beginning and from there the Jones & DeMille Engineering (JDE) structural engineers, designers and construction project manager team will design a metal building foundation design to suit your needs.

Will the pre—manufactured or pre-engineered metal building going to be an office building, a gathering/meeting house, a large storage unit? Will there need to be plumbing and restroom facilities? How about electrical outlets and lighting? Will the electrical outlets and lighting be only on the inside, or do you also need security lighting and power sources on the outside of the pre—manufactured or pre-engineered metal building? Will there be landscaping involved?

Once these questions have been answered, the structural engineers and designers at Jones & DeMille Engineering will design the building foundation system. If additional services are needed beyond design of the foundation system,  Jones & DeMille is happy to assist with these additional services. These additional services may include architecture, funding procurement (for municipal buildings), project management, bidding, surveying, materials testing, construction observations, staking, and more

The foundation is the most important part of the project. After determining the size needed, Jones & DeMille Engineering structural engineers and designers, with nine offices located throughout the state of Utah, will calculate the load needed .  The structural engineers and designers will then draw the plans to meet all International Building Code and local zoning codes and regulations. JDE engineers bring knowledge and familiarity with the rules and laws pertaining to prefabricated and pre-engineered metal buildings in the state of Utah.

Other things the structural engineers consider is the site preparation and position. Jones & DeMille Engineering has an on-site AASHTO, AMRL, CCRL certified materials testing lab that can test the soils and concrete to ensure the metal building meets specifications. The structural engineers and designers also check the site for potential flooding, earth movement, water table, or drainage issues to address any concerns about the structural integrity of the pre-manufactured or prefabricated metal buildings, or foundation.

JDE’s structural engineers and designers also take into account the positioning of the prefabricated or pre-manufactured metal buildings. Southern exposure? A southern exposure may need additional features including awnings or covered porches because of the intensity of the sun’s heat in the summer.

Another consideration that the structural engineer and designers will factor in when designing the pre-manufactured and pre-engineered metal buildings is the wind. Will the building be in an area where there is consistently high winds? The load bearing of the materials used will need to calculated and factored in when designing the pre-manufactured and pre-engineered metal buildings in such areas

Metal buildings, when engineered and installed correctly, are a real benefit to the user. When engineered to the needs of the user and designed for their special needs by a certified structural engineer and designer, not only can they be utilitarian, but they can also be beautiful and enhance any area where they are constructed. No longer are pre-manufactured or pre-engineered buildings the ugly eyesores of days gone by, but they are now designed to be aesthetically pleasing and well utilized by the structural engineers and designers at Jones & DeMille Engineering.
